In the summer of 2022, Barno Ismatullaeva made her debut on the Bregenz lake stage in the premiere of Pucci-ni’s Madama Butterfly, directed by Andreas Homoki and conducted by Enrique Mazzola. The production is available on DVD and was broadcast by numerous television stations and other media outlets worldwide.
Her recent and upcoming engagements include Norma at the Hamburg State Opera, Madama Butterfly at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Hamburg State Opera, the Teatro Regio Torino, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Teatro Massimo Palermo, the Festival Granda Lima, and the Leipzig Opera; Elisabetta in Donizetti’s Roberto Deve-reux at the Dutch National Opera Amsterdam; Desdemona at the Teatro Massimo Palermo; Elisabetta in Doni-zetti’s Maria Stuarda; and Lyudmila in Glinka’s Ruslan and Ludmila at the Hamburg State Opera. She opened the 2025/2026 season at the Teatro Regio Torino with great success as Francesca in Zandonais Francesca da Rimini, alongside Roberto Alagna as Paolo. In the summer of 2026, she will make her house and role debut as Tosca at the Israel Opera Tel Aviv .
She also performed as Anna di Rehberg in Catalani’s Loreley at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam.
From 2019 to summer 2025, she was a member of the ensemble at the Hanover State Opera, where she per-formed roles such as Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello, Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème, Nedda in Leoncavallo’s I pagliacci, and Elena and Margherita in Boito’s Mefistofele.
Following her participation in the Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2017, Barno made her Austrian debut in 2018 as Amelia in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck. Her German de-but followed in 2019 in a new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly at the Staatstheater Nürnberg. She has also collaborated with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Duisburg on a recording of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, as well as with the Aalto-Theater Essen, the Theater Dortmund, the Polish National Opera in Warsaw, and the Bucharest State Opera.
Barno Ismatullaeva was born in Andijan, Uzbekistan. Immediately after graduating from the Tashkent State Conservatory, she was engaged by the Alisher Navoi Opera House in her hometown and subsequently by the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre in Moscow. She is a prize winner of numerous competitions, including the 2014 Competizione dell’Opera in Tashkent.
