Maria Fuller
Conductor

Maria Fuller is fast emerging as one of Canada’s most compelling voices on the global music scene. Whether in symphonic, ballet, or opera, Fuller brings a signature blend of cinematic storytelling, bold programming, and electric podium presence that sets her apart. Critics have spotlighted her “vivid imagination” and “energetic personality” (Kalejdoskop), alongside the “precision of her gesture and sensitivity to detail” (Ruch Muzyczny).

Currently Assistant Conductor of the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège in Belgium and Founding Music Director of Calgary’s Ammolite Opera, Fuller is shaping the future of performance from both the podium and the ground up. Under her direction, Ammolite Opera has already earned four Betty Mitchell Award nominations in just its first two seasons—an early signal of her impact as a creative leader.

Her recent run includes standout productions of Hänsel und Gretel and Madama Butterfly at Teatr Wielki w Łodzi, and Manon Lescaut at Prague’s National Theatre, where she was recognized as a finalist in the prestigious 11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Conducting Competition. She has also worked closely with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal, further sharpening her artistic voice. In North America, she recently led Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito in Cincinnati, continuing to build a cross-continental presence.

The 2025–26 season includes major debuts with Filharmonia Opolska, Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Trentino Music Festival in Italy, and the Rocky Mountain Symphony – firmly placing her on the radar as a conductor to watch. As a composer, Fuller’s work fuses cinematic sweep with a distinctive “new Baroque” edge, attracting a growing slate of commissions. Her latest large-scale work, The Christmas Messiah, premiered this December with Ammolite Opera.

Off the podium, Fuller is equally invested in shaping the audience experience—curating innovative education and family programming while maintaining an active career as a pianist and collaborator. This February, she tours Canada alongside CBC Radio host Tom Allen in J.S. Bach’s Long Walk, a live performance experience that re-imagines Bach for contemporary audiences.
